Stress Damage

Stress is bad for your body and can leave you feeling tired, sore and just achy all over. But stress does more than just leave you feeling drained or anxious and can really do havoc on your skin. When you’re stressed out, you body has a chemical response that can cause your hormones to really do a number on your skin. So when you’re stressed out, you’ll notice that your skin is more sensitive and reactive to skin conditions you might already have. Here are a few ways you skin is affected by stress:

When you’re stressed out, your skin’s outermost layer becomes damaged. This layer is protecting your inner layers from bacteria and other harmful pathogens, so when you’re stressed, it breaks up these skin cells. These tiny cracks allow harmful bacteria enter your skin’s deepest layers and then activate your immune system, resulting in rashes like psoriasis and eczema.

Breaking out whenever your stress is an embarrassing problem. Many people see their face breakout at points in their life when they’re most stressed. To fix this problem, do things that will help you get rid of stress and make sure that you’re washing your face with a cleanser that has benzoyl peroxide that will lessen the inflammation caused by acne.

Puffy Eyes

Stress can leave you looking more tired than usual, with puffy eyes and dark circles under your eyes. This can be because of the lack of sleep you’re getting since you’re too worried about something. To get rid of them, make sure that you’re getting enough sleep at night and elevate your head a bit so that fluid doesn’t pool around your eyes, which makes them puffy in the morning. Also, cut up cucumbers and use the slices around your eyes a few times a day to get rid of any puffiness.

Reddish Skin

Stress can also make your skin red since it causes capillaries to expand, giving your skin a more flushed color. And if you already suffer from skin conditions like rosacea, you’ll notice that it’s even worse when you’re stressed and will last longer than usual. If you don’t have rosacea and just have red skin during stressful times, a topical prescription will get rid of any inflammation.
